Wylie Keyboard and Converter/Spell Checker Add-ons
Nitartha-Sambhota now features an optional keyboard using Wylie input, a new program to convert a variety of Tibetan file formats and a spell checker for transliteration files. These add-ons make Nitartha-Sambhota the
most feature-rich Tibetan word processor available today. The Wylie keyboard program allows you the option of inputting Tibetan data into Nitartha-Sambhota documents using the Wylie transliteration system,
the most universal of such systems in use today. Unlike other limited Wylie entry systems, the Nitartha-Sambhota keyboard has been specially designed to work even for complicated mantra stacks. (You can also easily
switch between the Wylie and Sambhota keyboard.) The Converter reinforces Nitartha-Sambhota's position as the universal conversion medium for translating major input and transliteration systems to create a
unified database of Tibetan language information. The spell checker adds a convenient way to check your Tibetan transliteration files. Wylie Keyboard
The new Wylie keyboard allows users to type
Wylie in Microsoft Word and see Tibetan script appear on the screen syllable by syllable. Not only are the standard Tibetan characters and stacks supported but an extensive variety of Tibetan-Sanskrit stacks are
supported as well. For example, one can type karma, buddha, ratna, padma, badzra etc. and the appropriate Tibetan-Sanskrit stacks will appear. A table is provided in the file wylie.sam.rtf illustrating how to type many
of the supported character stacks. Converter One of the
greatest obstacles to creating electronic forms of Tibetan data results from the fact that files cannot be shared by different Tibetan word-processing programs. With the upgrade of the Nitartha-Sambhota conversion
facility, Nitartha-Sambhota has made great strides toward overcoming those obstacles. The converter works with a number of the leading file formats for Tibetan language encodings, including Asian
Classics Input Program transliteration files, Wylie transliteration files, and rich text files using Robillard LTibetan font format. The converter will also translate transliteration files to Tibetan fonts using the
Sambhota 2.0 font sets. The converterallows the following direct conversions:
- ACIP to Sambhota
- ACIP to Wylie
- Wylie to ACIP
- Wylie to Sambhota
- LTib to ACIP
- LTib to Wylie
Spell Checker Built into the conversion program is a spell checker which uses a look-up derived from the Rangjung Dorje Dictionary
to check transliteration files for spelling errors. The spell checker works on the following files:
- ACIP Spell Check
- Wylie Spell Check
